Dear Ann, I'll be sending more business your way as I intend to purchase a Carter D-10 Pro model as soon as I feel comfortable with my progress on the Starter. I have been impressed with the way that Carter steels are built and the way they sound. I also appreciate the quick and courteous way my email concerns have been handled. Thank you so much for your concern and your time and effort. I look forward to doing business with Carter in the not too distant future and best wishes to all for your continued success. Again, Thank you for all your time and effort on this and may God bless always, Dickie G. Whitley |

Howdy Ms. Fabian: Got my Carter-Starter in October 2000. Traded in Carter starter in July for the Carter d-10. After playing the Carter d-10 for the first time I was heard to exclaim, "wooooo doggy! smear me with honey and throw me to the bees"!!! I can be heard on two tracks on the soon to be released debut album by the Streetwheelers. Can be seen in the Washington/Baltimore/Annapolis area with "Neon
Tan",
"The Scott Decker Band", "The Ghost of Tom", "The
Vidalias", and anyone else who wants to hire me (hey, Thanks for making it affordable and enjoyable to learn how to play what could have been a human torture device. Thanks a million Carter. John Scott AKA Fido Mann |
July 31, 2001 Thank you for the great guitar. I really appreciate the affordability of this wonderful instrument and the video. The video was clear, although it would be neat if a lick or two or something to get people started on playing the guitar. The technique lessons were very helpful and gave me something to practice and work with though!! Thanks. I am very greatful for this opportunity to play the wonderful instrument!! John Kingsley |
March 08, 2003 THANK YOU GUYS FOR THIS AFFORDABLE, QUALITY, INSTRUMENT. I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCE. ALLAN I. ADSITT |
November 18, 2001 Glad to have a starter guitar with quality works. This makes a difference when purchasing a learning guitar. The works have to be good and the pedals and knee levers matching with Jeff Newman classes. Really great. Thanks Laurence Stinson |
August 25, 2003 Hi Ms Fabian, Just a note to say " what a little gem" my Carter-Starter is. Had I had this guitar when I first started playing 40 years ago, I probably would have been a great musician by now.(ha,ha) Kudos to the designer(s) for making a complicated mechinism work so simply and easily. From my previous email(s) you remember my attempts at altering tuning/setup. but once I began studying and playing my Carter-Starter in earnest, I appreciated this guitar as it is a little gem. Thanx again for your patience and understanding.

May 05, 2002 Dear Carter Company, I just bought the beginners model and love it ! I'm sure it won't be long that I'll be upgrading to a more professional S10 model. I was thrilled that Jeff's tape was included as well as the tool kit and instructions. I had no problem whatsoever assembling the steel as well as tuning the strings, pedals and knee levers. I've always wanted to play steel and was getting frustrated with the limitations of my 8string C6th Lap Steel. I feel as though I have begun a great adventure. Thanks for the complete features (3P/4K) at a very affordable price. The challenge is most certainly gonna be to acquire proper training discipline. Thank You Mike Talabac |
Thanks for coming up with this great starter! Birney Bull |
May 29, 2003 The Carter-Starter is fantastic. It is everything I could hope for in a starter guitar and more. Thanks again, Burt |
July 02, 2003 Just a quick note to let you know that I got a Carter Starter and I spoke to John Fabian on the phone today. My third string "finger" was sticking and wouldn't return home after stepping on the pedal. John discussed the problem with me and gave me a few different options. Well, I oiled the finger that pivots through the bridge by where the string attaches, and everything is working fine now. The only thing left to do now is to learn how to play it. I love the way a pedal steel sounds, and hopefully I will be able to do it justice. Thanks guys, and thank you John. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, Tony (a new and satisfied customer) |
June 29, 2003 Hi, Since I started listening to Country music a few years ago, I have just loved the sound of the Pedal Steel. Through your website and the video by John Fabian, I realised that I could get my head (and hands and feet!) around playing one. I tried everywhere to locate one (they are not very common here in Australia) and finally, returning to your website, I discovered you had a dealer in South Australia. I called Ron Pearce Music in S.A,and spoke to Peter, who was very helpful. The transaction was done over the phone, and within 2 days,I was the proud owner of a Carter Starter! Out of the box it was ready to go,and being a typical musician,I used it immediately on a track I was working on. Since using those first 2 strings! I have been having a lot of fun getting familiar with the other 8,and everything else that goes with Pedal Steel Addiction!!! All this (plus more thru the various links) was possible thanks to your website. You didn't just make a sale, you made it easy! Finally the support offered by your agent here has been excellent!! Thanks Steve Harrison |
September 27, 2001 Thank you Venmans Music for Carter Starter. Carter Starter is in a good shape here in Finland. I´m gonna recommend your company name and Carter-steel to everybody. Now I´m trying to learn to play that thing. Hmmm. Terveisin, Esa Finnilä |
November 16, 2002 My son bought this as a Christmas Present in October of 2001 but I couldn't be with him until November 8th of 2002 to receive it. I have just unpacked it and am very pleased with the guitar. I am a beginner but have played regular guitar for many years. This has been long time dream come true since I was never able to afford a steel in the past. I firmly believe that you really have produced a quality product at an affordable price. I will be attending the Saluda Steel Guitar Festival on the 17th to buy some additional "Steel Necessaries". My compliments and thanks for producing a great sounding instrument. Cort L. Hessler Jr. |
January 03, 2001 Thanks for the follow-up. Everything is working great. It's challenging, but having a solid, quality instrument really helps. The guitar sounds phenomenal. Thanks for all your help, and please tell John that I am so happy with the guitar and having the total package is just awesome. I'm definitely a Carter Player for life. I should have a recording on my mp3.com site within the month. I'll let you know when I post a song with the Carter. Thanks Again! |
July 30, 2002 Greetings from Germany, Thanks for the still great pedalsteel and for the quick and effective help by email. I tried what you suggested in your email and it seems to work very well. Good Customer Service you have there! Tim Spohn |

John Fabian, Bud Carter and Ann Fabian of Carter Steel Guitars are a class A act in my opinion. I am playing my Carter-Starter thru a Nashville 400 and it sounds as good as an Emmons LeGrande. When I took the Carter-Starter out of the box, it was in PERFECT tune! And I am one of those victims of a perfect ear! A Virginia boy, Bob Stigall |

Dear Carter Steel Guitars: I have owned this Carter-Starter for about 2-1/2 months now. I found that the pedals were in good tune when it arrived and it can be adjusted with ease and minimal hassle. The instrument itself is pretty lightweight (for being what it is) and about the only thing I find difficult at all is wrapping the strings. The pickup has a good sound. All in all, I'm quite happy in having this instrument to learn on and plan on having it around for a few years as I develope more pedal steel changes. As it is, I picked up a lot right away. And I probably have a ways to go yet. Thank you for making such an affordable instrumnet of high quality. Mike V. Lind-Hanson |

Hello to everyone at Carter Steel Guitars: The budget of supporting a family did not allow me a $2,000 to buy a new Pro model so I decided to try the Carter-Starter. It's NEAT!!! The tone is very pleasing. Pedals and knee levers are very positive. I could not be happier. My wife plans piano at our church and we are working on a piano-steel duet of "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus". I've already started saving for a Carter Pro model. Thanks for the nice guitar at a nice price. Best regards to everyone there. Johnny Ummel |

Thank You for building the Starter. Also the instruction video is excellent. 25 years or so I had a Sho~Bud double 12. Never got a handle on it, and gave up. Thanks to your "intro" guitar and instruction, you have a new customer. can't wait to graduate to a "real" I'm having fun and in the few days since my Christmas gift I'm further ahead than I was after a year of frustration with the Sho~Bud. THANKS! Cheers, Jon Sharp |
June 17 2005 Dear Carter Steel Guitars: Looks great, works great, and sounds great! I love it! Herman Englehart |
Dear Carter Steel Guitars: So far I am quite thrilled. I really appreciate all the online site support. I watched that video with John Fabian for 6-string players -- really helped me to know what I need to start with. I predict the PSG is going to gain in popularity and I hope to have a part in promoting its application in pop rock (as alt-country is already doing). PSG is the wave of the future -- more and more guitarists have to try it out!!!! Yours is a great product. Thanks. Dean Wolfe |
June 16 2005 To: Carter Steel Guitars Thank you so much for building an affordable, great playing beginner's steel guitar! I'm loving it! Daniel N. Zimmerman |

Carter folks! Great sound. I am very satisfied with my new guitar
and how well it sounds. Packaging was excellent. I am glad to see Musician's Friend team up with great people like Carter and deliver such a great instrument to a beginner like me. I've played rhythm guitar since I was 13 and now at 32 have decided to learn steel. I love the sound of these things. Aaron M. Oakes |

September 23 2005 Fabulous product. I wish more dealers in Massachusetts were displaying them so I'd have spotted it on the floor and tried it years ago. I would have bought one much earlier. Douglas Johnson |
